Seton has been the heart of southeast Calgary for a while now. The South Health Campus was completed in 2011. It attracted businesses, residents and infrastructure investments to Seton.

But the dynamic community isn’t resting on its laurels. Let’s take a look at the evolution of existing projects as well as new initiatives that will make Seton an even more exciting urban centre within Calgary.

Brookfield Residential YMCA

The world’s largest YMCA offers some 330,000 square feet of amenities, including rinks, a pool with waterslides and surf simulator, fitness centre and chile care. There’s also a branch of the Calgary Public Library, making this a true neighbourhood hub.

Retail Districts

Residents can find everything they need close to home in Seton’s New Commercial Hub.

1. North Retail District
Big names like Boston Pizza, Booster Juice and Dollarama are joined by local favourites like Globe Fish, Anytime Fitness and Korean BBQ.

2. Gateway District
Take care of business with Save-On-Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, BMO and TD Bank. There are also plenty of restaurants, salons and services for those who want to indulge after shopping.

3. Entertainment District
The Cineplex VIP Cinema is already a local landmark. And why not? With service at your seat, adult-only auditoriums and an expanded menu, it’s the place to be. Better still, when the district is complete, it will be joined by some 40,000 square feet of restaurants and services.

4. Market Street
This pedestrian-oriented development sits at the heart of Seton. It’s currently home to hotels, specialty shops like Long & McQuade, and cafés, with more to come.

5. South Retail District
The Real Canadian Superstore anchors this area, which sits just south of the Entertainment District.

Green Line LRT

The big new project in Seton is the Green Line. No surprise—the planned expansion of Calgary’s LRT system is big news across the city. When complete, it will extend from the city’s northern suburbs to the southeastern communities, including Seton.

Here are some details about the future expansion:

  • Route: The expansion is planned to be one of the largest infrastructure projects in Calgary's history. It will include about 46 kilometres of track built in phases. The Seton segment is part of the Southeast portion of the line.
  • Seton station: A Seton station is one of the planned stops along the Green Line, bringing more visitors to the area’s shops and restaurants.
  • Connectivity: Connecting various communities in the city, the Green Line expansion will make it easier for residents to travel to work, school, and leisure destinations without relying on cars. It will also provide a direct connection to downtown Calgary and other key areas of the city.
